How Much Does It Cost to Paint a Home Interior?

You are trying to figure out what it really costs to paint the inside of your home, one room or the whole house.

01 Why it matters

The trouble is interior quotes swing wildly because half the price is hidden in details a phone quote never asks about. Cracks and old patches, ceilings, trim, and a dark wall going light all add work, and a painter who lowballs to win the job makes it up by rushing prep or cutting coats. Then you live with roller marks and bleed through. Knowing what actually moves the number lets you compare bids honestly.

02 What drives the cost

What actually drives the price.

Interior pricing starts with scope. Per room pricing works when you want a bedroom or two, and whole home pricing usually earns a better rate per room because the crew sets up once and moves through the house. What you are actually paying for is wall area, ceiling height, and how cut up the space is with windows, doors, and closets.

Condition and surfaces drive the rest. Smooth walls in good shape paint fast. Walls with nail holes, cracks, old patches, or texture that needs repair add hours before a brush touches them. Ceilings are priced separately because they are slower overhead work, and trim, doors, and baseboards are their own line since cutting in clean edges is detail labor, not roller work.

Color and coats can quietly double a room. Going from a dark or bold wall to a light color, or covering a deep accent wall, often needs a primer coat plus two finish coats to cover evenly instead of one. Cabinets are always their own project, priced apart from walls, because they need degreasing, sanding, and a hard wearing finish. Every one of these is why a real interior number comes from someone walking the rooms with you.

Most Florida interior rooms run roughly $300 to $900 each, and a whole home repaint commonly lands somewhere in the low thousands depending on size, ceilings, trim, and color changes, but those are general market ranges, not our price. We give you one flat written number after we see the rooms, free.

03 How to compare

How to compare bids without getting burned.

  1. 01

Decide per room or whole home first

A room or two is priced per room. A whole house usually earns a better rate because the crew masks, preps, and moves through in one pass. Tell the painter the full scope so the quote reflects it.

  2. 02

Point out the walls that need repair

Cracks, nail holes, old patches, and damaged texture add prep time. Walk the rooms and flag them so the price includes the fix, instead of the painter rushing it or charging you extra mid job.

  3. 03

Call out ceilings, trim, and color changes

Ceilings, trim, doors, and baseboards are separate work and should be separate lines. If you are going dark to light, say so, because that usually means a primer plus two coats instead of one.

  4. 04

Keep cabinets on their own line

Cabinet painting is a different job from walls, with degreasing, sanding, and a durable finish. Ask for it priced separately so you can see exactly what the cabinets add.

Absolutely wonderful experience working with Zsolt! He was a recommendation from a friend for exterior house painting. I had already met 4 other painters and gotten their bids, so I expected that he would be similar, but he was by far the most professional, most responsive and most reasonable price. He included power washing the entire property which turned out to be a much larger project than expected, but not once did he pass that burden on to me. The finished job exceeded my expectations and I quickly hired him for another project. In total Zsolt power washed and painted the exterior of our rental house, washed and painted our pool deck with non-slip paint and stained a newly build wooden outdoor lounge area. I would recommend him to anyone in need of painting or staining or power washing.

Silver Painting did a wonderful job! I needed two bedrooms, and a bathroom painted. Zsolt came in and asked all the questions necessary to ensure the project went exactly as planned. From the color charts to recommendations on paint types and finishes. The painters were professional, courteous, and respectful of our home. The job was completed on time, on budget, with care, and attention to detail. They are true professionals. I highly recommend Silver Painting for all your painting and cleaning needs!

Our windows, doors and glass were dusty from Hurricane Milton. As we have done in the past, we hired Silver Painting and Cleaning to clean our windows and sashes, inside and out. The owner, Zolt, came and gave us an estimate on a Saturday.

06 Questions

Questions homeowners ask.

Is it cheaper to paint the whole house at once or room by room?

Whole home usually earns a better rate per room, because the crew sets up, masks, and preps once and works straight through. A single room is priced on its own and does not get that efficiency, so it can cost a little more per room.

Do ceilings and trim cost extra?

They are priced separately from the walls. Ceilings are slower overhead work, and trim, doors, and baseboards are detail labor with a lot of clean cutting in. We list them as their own lines so you see exactly what each adds.

Why does going from a dark color to a light one cost more?

Light paint over a dark or bold wall does not cover in one coat. It usually needs a primer coat plus two finish coats to look even, which is more material and more time than a simple color to similar color refresh.

Are cabinets included in interior painting?

No, cabinets are their own project. They need degreasing, sanding, and a hard wearing finish that walls do not, so we price them separately. That keeps your wall quote honest and shows you what the cabinets cost on their own.
