How Often Should You Repaint a House in Florida?
The national rule of thumb is repaint the exterior every 7 to 10 years. Florida is tougher on paint than that. Here you are usually looking at every 5 to 7 years, and sooner on the walls that take the most abuse.

Repaint too soon and you are spending on a house that did not need it yet. Wait too long and the paint fails at its real job, which is keeping water off your walls. Once it cracks and peels, moisture gets behind it and rots wood, trim, and fascia. That repair costs far more than the repaint you put off.

Outside, Florida sun and humidity run the clock fast. Figure every 5 to 7 years for most homes, and less on stucco or wood that takes full sun all day. The material matters too. Wood and older siding need attention sooner than a clean, well-sealed stucco wall.
The sun-facing and coastal sides always go first. A south or west wall takes UV all afternoon, and a wall near the water fights salt air on top of that. Those sides can be ready for paint a couple years before the shaded, protected sides of the same house. So repainting is often about a few walls, not always the whole thing at once.
Inside runs on a different clock. Interior walls in low-traffic rooms can go 5 to 7 years or more. But trim, doors, and high-traffic spots like hallways, kitchens, and kids' rooms take real wear and often need a refresh sooner. If you are in an HOA, check your governing documents too. Many communities set their own repaint cycle and expect the exterior kept up regardless of how the paint looks to you.

Start with the south and west walls, and anything facing the water. If the color there is washed out, chalky, or peeling while the shaded sides still look good, those walls are telling you the schedule, not the calendar.

Real signs beat a date on a calendar. Fading and chalk on your hand, hairline cracks, peeling or blistering, caulk pulling away from seams, and bare spots showing through all mean it is time. If you see them, the paint is past due, not close to due.

Trim, doors, and busy interior rooms wear faster than the walls around them. You can often refresh just those to keep the place looking sharp without repainting everything, which spreads the cost out over time.
